Pallas's Squirrel

DESCRIPTION: Also known as Red-bellied Mountain Squirrel,Red-bellied Beautiful Squirrel, Red-bellied Squirrel, Belly-banded Squirrel and Asiatic Red-bellied Squirrel. This beautiful squirrel is a native of Southeast Asia, although it has been introduced to other countries where it has adapted and thrived. This species is instantly recognizable by its red belly, olive-brown upper body and banded tail. There are several subspecies found in its range, many with a black posterior patch on the back. This squirrel prefers submontane, mixed deciduous, and peninsular monsoonal evergreen forests, and is common throughout its range.
LENGTH: Body: 20 - 26cm; Tail: 20cm
DISTRIBUTION: Found throughout Myanmar, Thailand (North, West and Peninsula), and Malaysia (Peninsula).
BEHAVIOUR: This squirrel is active by day and can be heard as it leaps from tree to tree, crashing through leaves. Arboreal and diurnal.
